Team Chapel

team chapel.jpg

Team Chapel was formed in 2011 when Pastor Robert Hartwell, Pastor of The Chapel School, applied for and was granted a small charity license for the 2011 ING New York City Marathon. This highly sought after opportunity allowed the five runners of “Team Chapel”  to run the marathon in support of The Chapel School Scholarship Fund.  Pastor Hartwell led the first Team Chapel as coach (and runner). Under his continued direction, their running was not simply fun and games. Since it’s inception, more and more families have found quality education slip out of their grasp financially. This lost opportunity means that students must face dire decisions regarding their education. Through the efforts of Team Chapel,  students may find the extra financial help they need to attend our excellent Chapel School and reach their full potential. Thousands of dollars have been raised and many students empowered with quality, Christian Education as the scholarships placed this excellence within their financial reach.

This partnership between The Chapel School and New York Road Runners has continued to thrive and expand. Each November Team Chapel seeks runners for the TCS New York City Marathon.  Pastor Hartwell continues to serve as coach and has expanded Team Chapel to include a new race designated Team Chapel Arts. TCA runs the exhilarating New York City Half Marathon (which runs through Times Square) each spring and all proceeds support the growing arts program at The Chapel School which includes Band, Choral Music, Fine Art, and Drama.  The team looks for community members to run a classic New York City race and serve as ambassadors of the arts. These running ambassadors help raise awareness and funding for The Chapel School Art Programs to meet the ongoing art budget needs and to help the program grow.
