Meet The Team

Vi Hawes

Vi is a well-rounded athlete all the way from Tucson, AZ. She enjoys challenging herself in different fitness regimens including, but not limited to running, Cross Fit, yoga, rock-climbing, hiking, terrain racing and many others! Coming out of a knee injury, she wanted to further challenge herself by running her first NYC marathon. She firmly believes in the redemptive power of God's love and grace and wants to glorify God by taking care of her body and overall health. By running in the NYC marathon, she will honor God and all the funds raised will go to the children's education program at the Chapel School, where their focus is on their children's academic success and spiritual growth. Vi currently teaches English as a Second Language at her local college and is involved with her home church, Mission Church as a deacon and outreach coordinator.

Denise Rice

Denise is so excited to be running the New York Marathon on behalf of the children at The Chapel School. As a Lutheran teacher serving in Des Peres, Missouri, she knows the value of quality Lutheran education, and The Chapel School provides that for the children in the Bronxville community of New York. "I never thought running would become a passion for me, but after running 2 Dopeys at Disney World (a 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon all in 4 days), and 22 half marathons in 22 different states, I can say I'm hooked. Running the NYC Marathon will fulfill a lifelong dream of mine and help support these kids at the same time. Thank you for your donation! "
